Júlio Mesquita Square, formerly Vitória Square, is located on Avenida São João in downtown São Paulo. It was renamed during city improvement reforms in the early 20th century in honor of the director of the newspaper O Estado de São Paulo. The square houses the Monumental Fountain, a work by sculptor Nicolina Vaz do Couto, installed there in the 1920s. The work is also popularly known as the "Lobster Fountain".
