The building is a landmark of modern architecture in S\u00e3o Paulo due to its use of Miesian principles (meticulously elaborated minimalism) and its glass curtain wall. The structure, listed as a protected heritage site by the Municipal Council for the Preservation of Historical, Cultural and Environmental Heritage of the City of S\u00e3o Paulo (Conpresp) in 1992, suffered a fire caused by an electrical short circuit in 2018. At the time, the building\u2014occupied by the Social Movement for Housing Struggle and home to around 140 families\u2014collapsed. A social housing complex for low-income families is expected to be built on the site. "}]}
