The area was expropriated by the city government at the beginning of the 20th century for the establishment of a public holiday camp, which was soon deactivated. Years passed before the city government looked at the area with interest again. In the late 1960s, several projects were analyzed, but the park's actual inauguration only occurred in 1974.
