Santos, Vânia Mara Alves Lima 2017-06-01 pt-BR 2026-08-04 09:38:39 Parque Villa-Lobos Library 2026-08-04 09:38:39 Inaugurated in 2014, the Villa-Lobos Library, designed by architect Décio Tozzi, is located in Villa-Lobos Park. The project includes scenography and visual communication by Marcelo Aflalo, while the interior architecture was designed by Dante Della Manna Arquitetura.
The building occupies a large pavilion constructed of concrete, steel, and glass, prioritizing the use of exposed concrete. Its composition creates porticoes interconnected by a façade grid, from which open balconies overlook the reflecting pools surrounding the structure. In order to protect the interior spaces from intense solar exposure, a mesh of steel cables was installed, fixed to the concrete frame that encloses the main volume. This spatial grid is covered with vegetation, functioning as a solar filter and a thermal attenuation element.
Part of the ground floor is occupied by a circular plaza, where a large “flower”—whose semi-transparent “petals” filter direct sunlight—interacts with the “oca,” a wooden structure that functions as large-scale furniture, featuring tatami flooring, cushions, and poufs.
