The Cuban bolero is a duple-metre dance that exhibits closer relationships with the habanera and Afro-Cuban musical styles than with its Spanish counterpart. It is a binary song form that developed from such 19th-century forms as the conga, <em>danzón</em> and <em>contradanza</em>.</p>
