Constructed by José Pereira dos Santos based on a design by Manoel Francisco Lisboa, the building that houses the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Ouro Preto features Rococo architecture. The construction also included the participation of Antônio Francisco Lisboa, known as Aleijadinho, in the completion of the altars, while the gilding of the altarpieces and altars was carried out by the painter Manoel da Costa Ataíde.
