Housed in a Modernist building designed by Oscar Arine and Armênio Iranick Arakelian, the Rondon Museum of Ethnology and Archaeology was established in 1972 and inaugurated in 1973. The museum was named in honor of Cândido Mariano da Silva Rondon, a native of Mato Grosso and a defender of Indigenous rights.
