Museum of Modern Art (Rio de Janeiro)

The headquarters of the Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro had its construction initiated in 1954 and completed in 1967. Designed by Affonso Eduardo Reidy, the building was conceived as a composition of independent yet interconnected blocks. The museum’s headquarters was inaugurated with the completion of the School Block in 1958, which also functioned as an exhibition space until the Exhibition Block was completed in 1967.
The structure consists of an upper beam supported by fourteen exposed reinforced concrete frames, as well as two main pillars inclined outward and two smaller pillars inclined inward, forming a “V” shape with the former. Landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx was responsible for the design of the MAM gardens
