The Juventude Park is located in the Carandiru neighborhood, in the northern part of the city of São Paulo. During the 20th century, the Carandiru Penitentiary Complex operated on the site. After a massacre in 2001, it was decided to deactivate the detention center. Two buildings of the complex were preserved, while the others were demolished. In 2003, construction of the park began on the land, with plans for various educational and cultural facilities such as the São Paulo Library and the Juventude Park Technical School.
