Ladeira da Memória is also known as Largo da Memória, the point where the Obelisk of Piques stands, one of the oldest historical symbols of the city of São Paulo. The old Ladeira do Piques was transformed into a square to house the monument in 1814 according to a project by the engineer Daniel Pedro Müller. In 1919, the area underwent a redesign according to a project carried out by Victor Dubugrás.
