Dom José Gaspar Square was created in the mid-20th century from the garden of the old Metropolitan Curia building, located on Avenida São Luiz, in the central area of ​​São Paulo. The Mário de Andrade Library is located on the land adjacent to the Square, although it faces away from it. This is because the Square was created after the construction of the Library building.
