Júlio Prestes Square was created in the mid-20th century to adorn the area in front of the old Sorocabana Railway Station, now the Julio Prestes Station. The square underwent remodeling in the late 1990s, following a design by architect Rosa Grená Kliass, a configuration that remains to this day. The Sala São Paulo, home of the São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra, is currently located in the old Sorocabana Station building.
