The innovative Barão de Iguape skyscraper was built in 1959. The project used by the American architectural firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), with executive production by Gian Carlo Gasperini, was based on Jacques Pilon’s preliminary design. The modernist structure follows the architectural language of major North American towers, characterized by an open floor plan, a curtain-wall façade, and a steel structural system. Architect Aurélio Martinez Flores was responsible for the building’s renovations, particularly the façade. Initially conceived as the headquarters of Unibanco, the building is currently used as the administrative center of the São Paulo Court of Justice.
