The historic site of Olinda houses the architectural complex comprising the Church of Our Lady of Grace and the Diocesan Seminary. At the time, the site had been occupied by the Jesuits, but the building was destroyed during the Dutch invasion in 1631. Its reconstruction in 1661 resulted in the establishment of the Diocesan Seminary in place of the Royal Jesuit College, following the dissolution of the Society of Jesus throughout the Kingdom of Portugal.
